College Hospitals
Access Services is the umbrella which encompasses Admitting, Intake/Helpline and the Crisis Team. These services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at College Hospital Cerritos and College Hospital Costa Mesa. Access Services provides consultations to outside agencies, such as emergency departments, police departments, and other service agencies, when individuals with a need for crisis intervention have been identified.
Crisis Team
The crisis team is a mobile psychiatric assessment service created to serve the community’s needs. Conceptualized in 1983, the College Hospital Crisis Team has been operational since 1984 at College Hospital Cerritos and since 1989 at College Hospital Costa Mesa. The Cerritos Crisis Team has been developed into a service covering most of the hospitals, police departments, medical units, residential care facilities, clinics and treatment facilities within a 30 mile radius of College Hospital Cerritos. The Costa Mesa Crisis Team provides professional service to our Orange County hospitals and police departments. The Costa Mesa Crisis Team has become the preferred team in Orange County.
How The Crisis Team Works
The Crisis Team is staffed by licensed, LPS designated multi-disciplinary professionals. These include RN’s, MFT’s, LPT’s and LCSW’s, experienced in providing mental health assessment and crisis intervention, accessing community resources and working with all payers. Crisis Team Clinicians are dispatched by the College Hospital Intake Specialists when a request for service is received. During a face-to-face interview, the Crisis Team Clinician determines the nature and severity of the problem and identifies the support services needed. The majority of clients assessed by the Crisis Team can be treated by private or community-based outpatient services.
Medical Clearance
There are medical parameters required for all psychiatric admissions.
